EXCEL TIGBAUAN EXCEL!!!

The Municipality of Tigbauan in the Province of Iloilo, Philippines acquired its name like the majority of town centers, after a topographical distinction unique to the region, in this case after the Tigbao , a local name for a type of grass that used to swarm the countryside. Tigbauan, a coastal town, was one of the landing sites for American Forces led by General Douglas MacArthur in March 1945 for liberation of the Philippines from the Japanese in WWII.

Tigbauan was the site where American forces code-named Victor I, landed on March 18, 1945 together with the Philippine Commonwealth troops to begin the liberation of Panay. The troops set out from Lingayen Gulf, Luzon on March 14th. The 185th Infantry, 40th Division, splashed ashore at Tigbauan, several miles west of Iloilo. There they were greeted by Army Col. Macario L. Peralta's Filipino guerrillas continued from the Philippine Commonwealth troops drawn up in parade formation, and General Eichelberger recalled in his memoirs how the guerrillas stood "stiff in starched khaki and resplendent with ornaments." The strong guerrilla force of 23,000 had secured most of the island except the area around Iloilo where 2,750 Japanese were ensconced.

Although relatively small, Tigbauan is one of Iloilo's leading towns in fish production. Its municipal waters, abundant with fish are oftentimes producing more than what residents can consume. Three of its ten coastal barangays namely, Barroc, Atabayan and Banguingin are engaged in bagoong production and are shipped and sold in Manila, Cebu and Mindanao areas. Dried small shrimps or hipon are exported as far as Japan and other ASEAN regions. The presence of SEAFDEC (South East Asian Fishery Development Center) in Barangay Buyu-an, complete with amenities and facilities, caters information and technical service on bangus and prawn culture.

Slideshow above shows the brand new computers given by the Office of the President to both Barosong and Dapdap National High Schools. Seen are products made by various cooperatives in Tigbauan with assistance from the Livelihood Program of our Mayor. Mayor Torres also gave away free school bags to elementary & high school students all over Tigbauan.

The Tigbauan Church is unique in the country because of its Latin American churriquesque architecture. The church was constructed in 1575 and destroyed during an earthquake in 1948.

Tigbauan’s facade is style in the Mexican plateresque. At center is a seal of the Augustinian order surrounded by a retablo-like floral frieze, which fills the center. Above the seal is a niche flanked by pilasters embellished with flowers and upon it is a depiction of San Juan. Capping the relief is the image of Santo Niño

The church interior was gutted during the Second World War. Today, it has one of the most beautiful modern-type interiors made up of colorful stone murals. The mosaics adorning the church interior, including the altar and the Stations of the Cross, were created by a local artist in the last two decades.The artistic retablo-facade of Tigbauan Church is a fine example of Churrisguresque architecture. Many accounts define the church as Latin in style since there are existing Mexican inspired features within the portal relief. Each carving is finely detailed. There is no sign of boldness, but there is a light floating effect created as the relief narrows up while sprawling towards the cornice which seperates the pediment from the other parts of the facade. Bent winged cherubs and varied floral carvings dominate most of the relief. Aside from the relief, everything else is left rough and plain. The carvings may not be very visible since it drowns from the rugged and irregular texture of the limestone used on the facade.
